Job posting at classified ads

July 13th, 2009

Classified ad sites have many categories to post on, one that has raised pros and contras is the ads in the category of “Job Search” or “Position Wanted”. Whether the ad is free or not, posting job opportunity and job search at classified ads have left different impression to different people. Some say there is nothing wrong with the ads since they can help job seekers to find job. While the others regard job seekers who post his/her availability at classified ad sites as less credible.

Here are the pros and contras.

  1. Pros.

-          Classified ads enable you to write freely. You can write anything to market your potency.

-          You can easily edit your ad when it is necessary. There is no additional fee for this.

-          In most sites, your personal identity is not shared to the others. All contacts are usually received and sent through the site.

-          There is nothing wrong with making effort. Those who post availability at classified ad sites may have posted the same material in other kinds of media as well. Who knows?

  1. Contras.

-          Classified ad sites are not the place to find qualified employees for many recruiters. The sites are much less competitive as compared to sites that focus on job placement.

-          Recruiters will regard those who post their availability in classified sites as not professional and qualified, and thus not suitable for the job. The point is classified ads are not good for your image.

-          Classified ad sites are not as searchable as job placement sites in term of keywords. This will make the posted ads invisible.

-          Some people will think that if a job seeker really wants to find a job, he/she should have given more effort instead of just posting in a classified ad.

After all, they are individual’s perception. Maybe there is nothing wrong with marketing yourself at classified ad sites, you can say there is nothing to lose. Or maybe it will make you look desperate and incompetent.
